Coasties takes the fixed-gear trend for clean, cable-free lines and single cogs and applies it to the cruiser. The company offers cheap deep-V wheel-sets which swap out the rear track-hub for a coaster hub. This means you get all the aesthetic advantage of running a fixed-gear — non-visible rear brake, no cables or brake levers, but you actually get a brake so you can stop without blowing out your knees.

Some might say that this is just jumping on the “fixie” fashion-train, but who really cares? “Purists” are often short-sighted whiners anyway, and using a pair of Coasties on your ride means you can have a very cool looking (and lightweight) bike that is also comfy to ride. The Coasties come in various powder-coated colors and are finished for use with a brake.

I recently purchased a set of deep V’s with coaster brake from Coasties. I had been looking for this very set of wheels about 6 months ago after riding my cruiser bike (with coaster brake) along the boardwalk in Newport Beach. I stumbled upon a Coasties post on Craigslist and immediatley bought a set of wheels. I am stoked that my bike looks clean and is lightweight AND I have brakes. I had a spare front brake so that will be used, too. Coasties are the NEXT big thing. The folks at Coasti.es are super cool, too! Give em a shout and ride!

I picked up the coasti.es wheels with the intention of having a clean minimalist looking bike. The wheels had the 18t cog which goes well with most older road bikes converted to fixie or single speed and it could stop well and it had the looks of a track bike. after testing them out on a sample bike I bought two sets and when i put them on it was a lot of fun. I ride daily to and from work and weekends around san francisco and they are fun to ride and easy to control. I can take going up and down hills well. For the price you can’t go wrong and it is easier on your knees than riding a fixed gear.

I was going to buy a fixie off the internet. But I found your website and decided to build a “Coastie” instead. I salvaged an old frame. A little work and a rockin’ set of your wheels and I am now commuting to work in style. I am in love with my Coastie. My Bianchi Allaro has not left the garage since I finished my Coastie. It’s Quiet, Rock Solid and a totally smooth ride. The wheels are great, and EVERYONE who sees my bike asks about the wheels. The truly are unique. Great product, keep up the good work.

I bought A set of these rims over a year ago and I’ve been SMASHING around downtown San Jose on them with no problems. The hoops are Super strong, The hubs spin like there buttered, and the coaster brake is CLUTCH! If you like doing skids, look no further.
